Italian skier Marta Basino won today the gold medal in the super giant slalom at the World Championship in Meribel, France.

Basino won her third medal at the world championships and her second gold with a time of 1:28.06 minutes.

Silver went to World Cup leader American Mikaela Shifrin, who was 0.11 seconds behind the winner. Šifrin thus won her 12th medal at the world championships (six gold, three silver and three bronze medals).

Two skiers, Norwegian Kajsa Wikhof Lee and Austrian Cornelia Hitter, got the bronze, who were 0.33 seconds behind the 26-year-old Italian skier.

The defending champion in this discipline, Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami, took sixth place, 0.37 seconds behind Bassino.

The World Championship continues on Thursday with the super giant slalom for skiers in Courchevel. Skiers will continue the competition on Saturday, when the downhill is scheduled.
