Oaxaca, Oax., Reading creates critical thinking, discussion, debate, creates direct wisdom
asserted the director of the Fondo de Cultura Económica, Paco Ignacio Taibo II at the inauguration of the Ricardo Flores Magón bookstore, located in the Macedonio Alcalá theater, in the historic center of the state capital, where he also stressed that the growth in reading in Oaxaca it is the largest nationwide.
Accompanied by Governor Salomón Jara, he explained that, although Mexico City, due to the concentration of inhabitants, should have the first place in reading growth, Oaxaca currently occupies the first place. The difference and what he has helped is that in this entity in the south of the country there are volunteers everywhere in reading rooms
who have endorsed the promotion of reading in schools or other spaces.
He added that Oaxaca has the largest number of clubs and reading rooms, and noted that, with the support of the state government, a series of proposals to promote reading are being worked on.
Taibo II pointed out that for the Fondo de Cultura Económica the opening of this bookstore was of the utmost importance, because although one already existed, it had to close due to the pandemic and they only served through a window.
A place to enjoy reading
He added that it will no longer be a bookstore chiquita
but a real place to enjoy reading, where book presentations can also be held.
The federal official pointed out that the growth of the Fund has been very good, since with the inauguration of the Ricardo Flores Magón bookstore there are already 117 in Mexico, plus 18 established in Latin America.
During the inauguration of this space, members of the Popular Indigenous Council of Oaxaca Ricardo Flores Magón protested outside the bookstore, considering that the name of the Oaxacan was being used politically, which did not prevent the event.
The director of the Fondo de Cultura Económica spoke with the demonstrators, who assured him that the demonstration was not against him, but against the government and the political system. While Taibo II debated with the demonstrators, Governor Salomón Jara took advantage and withdrew from the place.
