In his 2022 New Year’s message, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, noted that the past year was “a year of difficult but necessary decisions and important steps.”

Putin read the message, not according to established tradition, standing near the Kremlin wall, next to the servicemen. According to analysts, it was his longest speech of the presidency. The message took about 9 minutes.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the president’s message was recorded on video at the headquarters of Russia’s Southern Military District, which Putin visited in the morning.

“The turning point and fateful events of 2022 have become the crossroads where the foundations of the future and true independence of Russians are laid,” Putin said and added: – “That’s why we are fighting today.”

Putin criticized the West and urged his compatriots to believe that “Russia will definitely remain a great and independent, progressive and victorious country.”
