
From August 1, 2025, Sonja Anders will be director of the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. Anders is currently director of the Hanover Theater. Born in Hamburg, she worked as a dramaturge at the Thalia Theater from 2000 to 2009, and until 2019 she was chief dramaturge and deputy director at the Deutsches Theater Berlin.
Lux has been in charge of the renowned Hamburg stage since autumn 2009. In January 2010, the former head dramaturge of the Burgtheater in Vienna founded the “Lessing Days” at the Thalia Theater. Anders announced that he wanted to continue the “tradition of political debate”. Her team stands for a “solidarity, open theatre, one that makes people tangible and energetically turns to its audience”.

Anders had “convinced with creative ideas for a sensual theater of the future,” said Hamburg’s Senator for Culture Carsten Brosda (SPD). “Sonja Anders stands for a relevant theater that opens up new worlds for us.” She will expand the theater as a place where “socially relevant topics come on stage”..
