“The reaction of the Islamic regime to them was monstrous, villainous. The most fundamental human rights were trampled on,” the head of the EU government said at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The United States has designated the IRGC a terrorist organization under President Donald Trump. The ayatollah regime was conditional on the reversal of this decision to return to an agreement on the fate of the Iranian nuclear program, but the Joe Biden administration rejected this demand.
After the start of mass opposition demonstrations in Iran in September 2022, the issue of returning to the agreement was off the agenda. The suppression of speeches and the use of the death penalty as a method of intimidation made European states also think about adding the IRGC to the list of terrorist organizations.
