The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed concern over the unprecedented wave of the coronavirus in China.
The head of the organization, Tedros Ghebreyesus, called on Beijing to provide detailed information about the seriousness of the situation.
Last month, there were reports of demonstrations in a number of Chinese cities, the participants of which demanded an end to Beijing’s “Zero Tolerance for Covid-19” policy. As a result, strict lockdowns continue to be imposed in China even in case of a slight increase in the number of cases of coronavirus.
“The WHO is very concerned about the developing situation in China,” Gebreyesus said, urging to provide detailed information on the course of the disease and the situation in hospitals.
The coronavirus was discovered for the first time in 2019 in the Chinese city of Wuhan. The UN health department has so far not been able to find out the circumstances of the origin of COVID-19.
